The module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings to prepare students with the skills required in design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand and constructed drawing held both outdoors and in the studio.

SEMESTER 1
SEMESTER 1
Theories of Asian Architecture
The subject explores the history of South, Southeast and East Asian Architecture as a whole within a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design and city planning through three key themes: sustainability, tradition and modernity & globalisation. These themes will guide the organisation of weekly lecture and projects, which will proceed from the establishment of basic theoretical apparatus to the examination of specific cases. Students will develop understanding on Asian architecture and urbanism and interpret Asian architectural language through research poster and oral presentation.
In this module, it conducted 2 projects which is Project 1: Reading the contexts of Traditional Streets and Project 2: Research in Asian Architecture. In Project 1 we need to choose a street that we want to do the analysis with the list that had be given by our tutor. I choose Jalan Tun H.S Lee as my street. I do my research in different ways which contain physical context and non-physical context. In this project I understand the ways of reading the important "lexicons" of traditional streets through the tangible qualities of architecture and space, and the intangible socio-cultural attributes. Beside that, we also require to produce an infographic showing the understanding of vernacular in the Traditional Chinese architecture. Moreover, In project 2 we need to form a group that consist 7 members in the group to do the research and discuss significant issues to generate a critical understanding of tradition, modernity and globalisation in the Petaling street. The things that I had learnt in this module is the qualities id architecture and space and the ways of to solve the problem that it face in the heritage building shophouses
SELF-REFLECTION
Project 1: Reading the contexts of Traditional
This assignment is an that we need to choose the street that suggested in the brief given. This assignment is an individual assignment that require us to do the analysis about the physical context such as Religious buildings, Architecture facade and styles, shophouses and market. Beside that, is also require us to do the analysis about non-physical context such as traditional trades/ business, local/traditional cuisines, historical events and market. Those of the criteria that I had mentioned above is the analysis that require us to do.
The street that I had choose in this assignment was Jalan Tun H.S.Lee which is a long street from jalan Gereja Near Telekom Museum. All the way to Jalan Syed Putra near wisma tun sambanthan in brickfleids. From this assignment I understand that Tun H.S.Lee conducted many physical context and non-physical context. Nowadays we can still see there have many religious building such as Guan Ti temple, Sri Maha Mariamman temple and so on. Both of the context can let us really understand about the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual context within Jalan Tun H.S.Lee.
Assignment: Infographic
Infographic is an assignment that require us to choose a type of vernacular or traditional architecture such as traditional Chinese architecture, Traditional Indian architecture, vernacular Malay architecture and vernacular architecture of Southeast Asia. After we choose the type of vernacular or traditional architecture that I had mention above, we are require to do the research about the design thinking, building typology, spatial layout conception and so on in 1 A3 size portrait or landscape format.
I had choose the traditional Chinese architecture as my assignment topic. I had do a lot of research about the contents. By doing the research, I understand that the materials that always use in traditional Chinese architecture is timber and the construction system of timber structure in China is complicated as you can see the infographic that I had done before. Moreover it conducted 3 types of building typology which is imperial buildings, traditional residences and religious buildings. Lastly, I understand the design intention, society and culture on the architectural production and so on by doing this project.
Project 2: Research in Asian Architecture
Project 2 is an assignment which need us to form a group conduct 7 members. In this assignment we are require to do the research and discuss about the significant issues that appear in the street that we had done in project. We only need to choose one of the street from project 1 to proceed our job. Moreover, we need to understand about the traditional, modernity and globalisation in one of the context that we had choose in project 1.
In project 2 we need to form a group that consist 7 members in the group to do the research and discuss significant issues to generate a critical understanding of tradition, modernity and globalisation in the Petaling street. The things that I had learnt in this project is the qualities id architecture and space and the ways of to solve the problem that it face in the heritage building shophouses
