Measured Drawings and Documentation

This module introduces students to the method of documenting through preparation of measured drawings, written and photographic documentation to preserve an accurate record of historic properties to prescribed standards.

Project 1: On-site Observation Journal

Students are required to observe, sketch, and record the physical and non-physical settings of the site and the measured building as part of this assignment. The sketches demonstrate students' understanding of the contextual linkages between heritage architecture and the location, and the sketches are complemented with interpretive captions.

Reflection

In Project 1, I have a chance to visit the actual site after the Covid-19 pandemic. From this project, I learned how to observe the physical and non-physical contexts by using my phone to capture all the memory photos. On the site, we also got go to door by door to do some interviews and surveys to know more about the historical background of the Leper disease, the historical background of the site etc. The information we collected impressed me a lot and made me understand how difficult it was for people in the past. In the end, I decided to sketch 11 pages of drawing to show the things I felt and understood about the site.

Project 2: Historical Research Report

To understand the historical, social, and cultural characteristics of the measured heritage building, students must conduct historical research on it and create a thorough report. This group project requires cooperation and teamwork from every member of the group. The peer review will determine how well the group performed on this task.

Reflection

In this project, I learned more about the past of the Sungai Buloh Leprosy Valley of Hope. Additionally, I now know better how an accurate report appears. Throughout the interviews, I also picked up a lot of knowledge. I know the significance of companionship for a patient on the site. The local populace steadily dwindles; some have passed away, and others have left, leaving most of the chalet abandoned. The historical buildings that make up our nation's legacy must be preserved for this reason.

Project 3: Measured Drawing

We were needed to thoroughly examine the allocated colony as a group during the site visit, which included looking at the architecture, studying the layout's design, and taking measurements of the settlement. Later, The drawings and a computerised 3D model of the settlement were done using computer applications such as Sketch up, Revit and Autocad.

Reflection

In this project, I learnt how to use Sketch Up, Revit, and Autocad to measure the Chalet on the job site and computerise all the measurements with the draught designs. When measuring the house, I also picked up more information about how a house is laid up.
